Friday Thoughts

Yesterday was my eldest brother's 30th birthday, big 3-0. As he embarks on his journey through this new decade in his life I begin to contemplate my own which will begin next spring. I will begin my journey through (what looks to be a quite interesting decade) the 20s, dun dun duuuuuun. I have to say I am super psyched about it, the thought of not being a "teen" and graduating from college, moving out, and getting a real job is exhilarating.

What are/were your expectations of your 20s? For those of you in your 20s, how has this third decade of life treated you (so far)?

I guess what I am most excited about is my changing perspective. As a child I was always in awe of adults who seemed so wise and intelligent. I've always had an appreciation of grandparents and traditions, they seem so grounded and steadfast. I used to tease my nana about her need to always be cleaning or cooking or any of the countless tasks to be done around the house, but now I think it gives her peace of mind knowing she can do these things (and do them well) for the family she loves. Her only regret in life is that she was never able to attend school, as the eldest daughter her parents pulled her from school at a young age to help her mother. How many youngsters today drop out of high school or choose not to attend college? They don't know they have an amazing opportunity some would do anything to have.

My only wish for my 20s is to not stray from my road. I want to keep learning and growing, the never ending journey.

Happy Friday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Anaiz, I have a feeling your 20s will be a very exciting time for you!
It seems like it's that time in your life when so much stuff changes. It can be scary, but exciting at the same time. For me, I don't know that I had many expectations going into my 20s. I was just focused on college at the time and didn't think much about what I would do afterwards. I never made any plans or anything.

Perspective definitely changes, I always feel like I used to be so naive :)

Since I'm going back to grad school - I worked for just over three years and got promoted, etc - I thought my life would have been entirely different. So I guess I thought life would treated me - differently.

I think the 30's and 40's get a lot of attention, but let me tell you...the 20's are a big deal too! It kind of sets the pace for the rest of your life! Starting your 20's you're in college and most end their 20's in the working world, married and with kids! A lot of changes happen in that one decade! However, whatever you do, just soak in every moment! Trust me!! I can't even begin to tell you how fast it goes by! I was in college the other day and I blinked and it's been 7 years since I graduated!!! I still can't believe that....feels like yesterday :)

I will be turning 28 at the end of this year, and I must tell you that being in your 20s is so much fun... as long as you stay true to who you are. Decisions during this time of your life are incredibly important, as the consequences shape who you are and will become. I'm not really talking about college majors here, more on a personal level. I'm glad to say that while I have grown up, I've never lost the core of who I am.
