Letting go of old clothes

The time has come to clean out things I don't wear and donate them. I have to say that this year I'm surprised at how willing and even eager I am to get rid of everything. When I say everything I mean I literally am throwing out 60% of my stuff. I think that is partly due to the fact that my style has changed a lot this past year. I used to be the type of person who kept things just to have them in case of extreme (and highly unlikely) situations where I might need them. But I thought to myself, if you didn't use it in the past year, it's got to go. So that's what I did. I dumped all my clothes on the floor and went through each item, keeping only what I had used. Ok so I kept a few things... they're for memories. Really they are. I now feel much lighter and clutter free. Oh the joys of cleaning out the old!

And keeping the good. (Even if I have to wash everything again. Why did I put them on the floor?)Then again I don't think I can ever get rid of any of my Snoopy pajamas. They are welcome to stay for as long as they fit. But the best part about cleaning out the old, is more room for new(er) joys.

Oh I have been dreading this task! I personally use the fit test. If it fits, I keep it. If it doesn't, then I donate it. I do the same thing when I shop. I make sure that I buy clothes that fit right now as they are, not when I lose ten pounds. Because my boyfriend and I live together, I often hear the "you have too many clothes" warning, followed by the "you should really throw some stuff away" lecture or, even worse (brace for impact), "you should stop shopping." The compressed vacuum storage bags are a lifesaver! I get to keep what I want and store it under the bed, away from his traitorous eyes! Happy Summer Cleaning!

Good thing you're donating! Now that I'm losing weight (35lbs so far), I'll have to do major cleanup in my closet. But I'm excited! Right now, all my clothes are swimming on me :)
