Peace Corps.

This weekend was beyond chaotic, here is Saturday's special post two days late :)

This Saturday post is very special because it is part announcement part informative. I will start by saying that I have been thinking about volunteering for the Peace Corps ever since I first heard of the program in high school. Well I have decided to volunteer when I graduate from college! It's a big commitment and my family has supported my decision whole heartedly. I will now begin volunteering to work with at-risk youth (one of many areas countries are seeking volunteers) to start my work. Well that's my big announcement! If you haven't heard of Peace Corps. or aren't quite sure of what it consists of, please keep reading!

Peace Corps. is a government program that provides volunteers from many fields to countries that request them. The volunteer spends two years in the host nation working with (and helping) locals in different fields. The different fields include health, agriculture, technology, community development, and many more! This program was "started" in 1960 (50th anniversary!) officially in 1961 and since then nearly 200,000 volunteers have served in 139 host nations. I hope to join them in 2012! :D

Happy Monday!

Wow! That is a huge decision, but it sounds like you have been thinking about this for some time and know that this is right for you. That's amazing. You are going to be able to help so many people. And to have the support of the people who love you is like icing on the cake!

I worked with a girl that had done that and she said it was an amazing experience!

Wow Anaiz!! I'm so proud of you!! Peace Corp is a fantastic organization and something I always wanted to do. Unfortunately, I never got around to living that dream, but I hope you get to experience it! I hear it's a wonderful, life changing experience. The more I read your charity posts, the more I feel like I'm not giving enough of my time to worthy causes. Thanks for the gentle nudge, even if it's only at the local level, there's so much that needs top be done :)
